Typical Customer Inquires:

1: �Seeking temporary coating to be applied to finely finished (16-4 Ra) surfaces on Aluminum and stainless steel machined components. Coating must air dry quickly and protect the finish from scratches during subsequent operations. Must strip away clean prior to shipment. Brush-on and/or dip. Currently using masking tape.�

Recommendation : For aluminum or stainless steel, by roll or brush application, PaintShield 5720 applied wet 6 to 8 mils can be dried with fan and hot air (140F) in less than 10 minutes. This is a water based product and the applied film will proceed from white phase to clear and cured state. Water must evaporate for the Peelable coating to work.

Liquid Mask 4210, solvent based applied to 6 to 8 mils wet, can dry in 5 minutes with the same fan and hot air as above. In each case solvent must evaporate from the film to attain proper peelable coating properties.

2. We use a spray on Maskant product at our facility also known as Elephant Hide. This is a messy, expensive, and unpredictable process but it is necessary when wanting to do a PAA or PAD process to one side of an aluminum skin and not the other. Do you know of a product out on the market that would be easier to use. I was thinking about some type of a roll film adhesive that could handle the charged tank and phosphoric acid. I know the mil thickness is important to make sure there is a good heavy coat. I saw you have a brush on product. We are spending a lot of money in overspray, drop, and wasted dried out product they wasn�t used up on off shifts. It plugs up the pumps, hoses, and guns frequently which create more than desired downtime. Do you have any suggestion?

Recommendation: Liquid Mask 4300, blue transparent, solvent based peelable coating, and we have versions of this without color, can be brushed or rolled. Dried films are very resistant to acids, 24 hours at 160F. This might be worth a try.
